Together with USAID, we conducted a perception analysis of Venezuelan migration in 9 prioritized cities in Colombia -Bogota, Cartagena, Bucaramanga, Cali, Medellin, Barranquilla, Cucuta, Santa Marta and Riohacha- through a literature review, secondary sources, analysis of social networks, media and focus groups.
Challenge
To comprehensively address the fact that Colombia is facing an unprecedented migratory flow of Venezuelan population, which has brought about problems such as xenophobia, and lack of social and economic integration for this population.
Strategy
We analyzed existing legislation on migration in Colombia and studied the way in which citizens talk about Venezuelan migration on Facebook and Twitter in the 9 prioritized cities. We took into account publications and news in the media and verified what we found through focus groups with public officials and Venezuelan grassroots organizations to understand the access to services of the migrant population in these prioritized territories.
